South Tyneside’s Children’s Integrated Therapies Team includes Children’s Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists and Speech and Language Therapists. 

The Children’s Physiotherapy team provide assessment and treatment for children and young people. Our philosophy is to enable children and young people to achieve their maximum potential for independence. By enabling children, young people and their carers to confidently manage their difficulties/disability within their home and the wider community. Therapy may be offered on an individual basis or as part of a group.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Age birth to 18years (If in full time school)
  • Children who have a general delay, disorder of movement, disability or illness, which may be improved, controlled or alleviated by physiotherapy intervention.

 Our therapist’s see children and young people with a range of medical conditions including:

  • Congenital Disorders e.g. Spina bifada, talipes
  • Developmental delay e.g. delays in sitting standing, walking
  • Developmental co-ordination disorder (dyspraxia)
  • Developmental and Neurological Disorder e.g. Cerebral Palsy
  • Gait Problems (toe walking)
  • Disorders of Bones joints and muscles & skin e.g. Muscular dystrophies


Where is the service provided?

Children and young people can be seen in clinic at Palmer Community Hospital, in nurseries, schools and at home.

Hours of operation

Monday – Friday (Excluding Bank Holidays) 8.30am - 5pm (answerphone facility available at other times) 

Referrals - are accepted from Consultants, GPs and Health Care Professionals (School Nurses, Health Visitors, Speech Therapists, and Occupational Therapists).
