Sunderland

The Community Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service is a team of practitioners, based in Sunderland, who provide services aimed at improving the mental health and emotional well being of children, young people and their families.

We work with children and young people who are under eighteen years of age and live in Sunderland, who are experiencing moderately severe emotional, behavioural and psychological difficulties.

Difficulties we may be able to help with include:

  • Behavioural difficulties
  • Emotional difficulties including low mood, anxiety and depression
  • Attachment difficulties
  • Eating distress
  • Sleeping difficulties
  • Self-Harm
  • Bereavement and loss
  • Relationship difficulties
  • Bullying

We aim to offer the most appropriate, evidence-based therapies and programmes, according to need. We are trained to deliver the FRIENDS programme, which aims to reduce anxiety and promote resilience and the Incredible Years Programmes, which deal with behavioural issues and parenting strategies. Within the team, we have workers who specialise in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Family Therapy, and Eye Movement and Desensitisation Reprogramming (EMDR).
