Dermatology Philosophy

Staff at the dermatology department acknowledge that clients attend the unit with a wide range of problems and strive to treat everyone with individual care in a professional and sensitive manor. We strive to be non judgemental in our attitude and care of all our patients.

Patients will be examined in a private environment and offers treatment such as blood tests, medication, skin surgery and referral where necessary to the appropriate service depending on their problem. Upon the arrival of the patient the nurse will great the patient and introduce themselves.

We encourage patients and their relatives to play an active part in their care. Communication with patient and their relatives is key to the treatment of our patients and advice and written information is provided to support this. We believe each patient is entitled to the highest standard of care delivered by an appropriately trained and competent member of staff and are committed to training and education within the department.

We recognise the importance of health education and promotion and strive to promote the general well being of each patient.

We strive to work with all the members of the multidisciplinary team, recognising their valuable contribution to high standards and patient pathways. We encourage mutual respect and improved communication with other professionals and specialist to achieve the best patient care and shared information where necessary. We realise the importance to provide the latest up to date best practice for our patients and the need to bench mark out standards against other service providers.

We encourage ideas and opinions from all staff and patient and we value those opinions. We recognise the importance of proving a safe clean, pleasant environment for patients and staff. We have designated cleaning staff with high standards. We are duty bound to follow procedures, carry out risk assessments and ensure high standards. We ensure all our staff follow appropriate cleanliness procedures and training.

We realise that change is an important factor in proving a dynamic service that is up to date and meets the needs of the public and we strive to meet new challenges. We recognise that all the staff needs to develop and be continually updated and take part in education to work within their scope of practice to protect and care for patients. We promote life long learning and the development of skills and knowledge.

We hope that out patients have a positive experience in the department and receive care and understanding to a high standard. We aim to protect vulnerable adults and children and follow appropriate guidelines to ensure this takes place.

We evaluate our standards through audit, patient feedback, complaints to learn from and meetings with the team to ensure that practice reflects philosophy.
