Our Services

Estates Department

The estates department provides a comprehensive estates management service maintaining and developing the estate.  We ensure that the environment for patients, visitors and staff is maintained to the highest standards in line with the trust’s health care led business objectives.

The service is divided into two teams:

  • The Capital Projects Team is responsible for design, project management and implementation of  Estates Capital Investment, the team is led by Mr Colin Thatcher as Head of Estates Capital Projects.
  • The Operations and Maintenance Team ensures that the Trust’s estate is maintained and operated efficiently and effectively in accordance to statutory obligations, Department of Health guidelines and trust policies offering a safe and secure environment for patients, visitors and staff. The team is led by Kevin Grabham as Head of Estates Operations and Maintenance.

Both teams collaborate to deliver and maintain a sustainable and energy efficient fit for purpose estate.

The Estates workforce consisting of estates officers, supervisors, joiners, painters, electricians, mechanical craftsmen, and maintenance assistants are also based on the District Hospital site from which all the Trust properties are maintained and serviced. The exception to this being St Benedict’s Hospice in Ryhope where the department has a number of handymen on site working on a seven day rota.
