Special Care Baby Unit

The Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU) care for newborn babies who are either born too early, are too small, are poorly or need help feeding and therefore need specialist care above that which can be safely delivered by parents.

Babies who are very poorly or really small will be transferred from our SCBU to a unit with the necessary facilities to look after these babies.

SCBU is located on the ground floor of the Maternity block, opposite the delivery suite:

The team 

The team of staff within SCBU comprises of neonatal nurse practitioners, neonatal nurses, registered childrens nurses and auxiliary nurses. The staff in SBCU are supported by Paediatric Nurse Practitioners, Advanced Paediatric Nurse Practitioners, and Medical Staff who do daily ward rounds to review progress and plan care and treatment for the babies.
